Ana will play Carlsbad in July

Ana Ivanovic has confirmed her participation in the Southern California Open at Carlsbad, which will be played from 29 July to 4 August. 

 In 2011, Ana reached the semifinals of that tournament, losing to Vera Zvonareva. She did not play it last year because it coincided with the Olympics Games. She will need to defend 95 points that week. 

 As of now, the Serbian is scheduled to play three tournaments before the US Open: Carlsbad, Montreal, and Cincinnati. She will defend only one point at the last two.

• San Diego was a good tournament for me. I had my chances in the semis yesterday against Vera, and that’s a positive thing: coming quite close to beating the world No.3. The more matches I play the more confident I feel and I’m hoping for another good run in Toronto. Looking at the field, it’s almost like a Grand Slam!

Today Top seed Vera Zvonareva defeated Ana Ivanovic in third set 5-7 6-4 6-4 in 2 hour 22 minutes . Ana had 2 aces , 2 Double faults , 63% first serve and 101 total the point won

The First set Vera Zvonareva took 5-3 lead but Ana managed to make 5-5 and then eventually 7-5

The second set Vera broke Ivanovics service twice and Ana saves 6 set points but Vera won the second set 6-4

And the third set Vera Zvonareva took 5-1 but Ana managed to make 5-4 but Vera with the service won the match and the set 6-4

Today Ana Ivanovic won the second Round in Mercury Insurance Open against Alberta Brianti 6-1 6-2 in One Hour and 06 minutes .

Ana had 4 aces , 2 Double Faults , 56% first serve and Total the points won 6. Ivanovic did not face a break Point in the match and has lost her serve only twice in four hour.

Ana will face in next round against Shua Peng from China on Friday.Ana won the two previous maeeting between the pair 6-2 6-4 Sydney 2006 and Amelia Island 2007 1-6 6-4 6-3

World No.17 Peng won through to round two by the remarkable scoreline of 6-1 6-3 against Australian Anastasia Rodionova . She had beaten in Round three Sara Errani 4-6 6-2 7-6

She will face No.4 seed Shuai Peng in the last eight on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 8pm local time (5am Saturday Central European Time; 11pm Eastern Time).

Ana Won the first match in Mercury Insurance Open

Ana gained swift revenge for last week's defeat to Ayumi Morita by beating the Japanese 6-1, 7-6 in the second round of the Mercury Insurance Open in Carlsbad, California. The 23-year-old recovered from a 0-5 deficit in the second set, the first time she has done so in her WTA career.

Ana had confessed to suffering from nerves during her loss to Morita in Stanford last week, but she showed no sign of them as she stormed through the opening set 6-1, winning a whopping 67 per cent of points.

The tables were turned in the second set as Morita raced into a 5-0 lead. At this point Ana called for some on-court coaching from her new mentor Nigel Sears. Whatever he said clearly did the trick, as she won five straight games to level the set.

The fifth seed, looking very pumped up, forced a tiebreak, which she won 7-5.

Ana will face Italian Alberta Brianti in the third round on Thursday. Ana won the only previous meeting between the pair, 6-3, 6-2 at the 2008 Australian Open.

World No.56 Brianti won through to round three by the remarkable scoreline of 0-6, 7-6, 7-6 against Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson. She had beaten 10th seed Flavia Pennetta in round one.

Ana Ivanovic: Quotable Quotes... Carlsbad All-Access

The big names in the Mercury Insurance Open draw took some time out to talk to the media before their opening matches at the All-Access Hour on Monday afternoon. Ana Ivanovic said :

On how she got the bruise on her elbow...
"I was practicing and the guy was at the net and I was at the back, and I was trying to reach for a backhand and kind of tripped over my own feet! I was trying to catch myself. He didn't get the ball at the net - I blamed him, of course!"

On what she thinks of Novak Djokovic's gluten-free diet...
"I'm doing the same thing. In Australia a few years ago, when I was doing my off-season there, the osteopath I worked with was the first one to suggest it to me. I've been on and off with it because it's hard to keep up with when you're travelling - in the US it's great and Australia too, but it's not so easy in Europe, especially in England and France... but it does help. For years I've been avoiding pasta - it makes me feel bloated and heavy, so I eat rice instead. I also avoid bread, scones... it's not too crazy. It has become a way of life for me, really."
